Traditional automotive creepers have wheels that get stuck in floor cracks, shift wildly over bolts or other loose parts and frequently break, leaving a mechanic stuck. But how do you solve these problems and make the creeper, a mainstay of mechanics’ garages for more than a century, more innovative? Our task was to reinvent the product line for a leading manufacturer of creepers, who was faced with stiff competition from overseas.

The Solution

We eliminated the most expensive and breakage-prone parts, the wheels and casters, and replaced them with air by incorporating a compressed air bladder. Instead of trying to roll over an uneven or cracked garage floor, the new Hover Creeper literally hovers slightly above it. To use, the mechanic plugs in the creeper, lies down on the ergonomic pad and glides under the car. Once underneath, he can hit a lever, let the creeper fall to the ground and have stable leverage for more torque. Tools that use compressed air can be plugged into an outlet on the unit and it also has a built in tool caddy.

Description

The Hover Creeper is an automotive creeper that hovers on air, ensuring there is never any wheel or caster maintenance needed. Air simply goes in a bladder inlet and escapes in an even manner between the rubber bladder and the floor, creating an “air” cushion. The Hover Creeper is ergonomically-designed for comfort and even includes side pockets for carrying tools and parts while working.

Parking an RV completely level to ensure camping comfort and make sure refrigeration fluids are level can be tricky, to say the least. Often, ensuring the recreational vehicle is level is the most time-consuming part of setting up camp. Currently, the only other RV leveling product on the market requires users to take measurements from the inside of an RV.

The Solution

Davison created the RV Leveler, a two-part product that enables users to quickly determine whether their motorhome is level. The two-piece system eliminates all the back-and-forth and guesswork of a standard leveler. The RV Leveler’s base communicates wirelessly via radio frequency with a corresponding handheld device that operates 30+ feet away. The four-light LED display on the remote unit enables the user to see immediately where adjustments are needed; green LEDs show where an RV is level and the red LEDs show where it is not. The product was created specificially for CIPA, an aftermarket vehicle accessories company.

Keeping the interior of a vehicle smelling fresh can be a real challenge, especially for people who do a lot of traveling in their cars. Standard air fresheners provide a solution, but most are very generic in their appearance. What if there was a way to keep a vehicle smelling fresh while making a unique personal statement?

The Solution

A client came to us with an idea for an air freshener that could be customized to display different names or sayings. The Personals Air Freshener was designed to hang from a rear view mirror and make a vehicle smell good while spelling out the driver’s name or anything else they would like. The product includes all the needed letters and symbols, which can be inserted in the plate and changed whenever desired.

The Solution

A leader in the automotive aftermarket industry filled this void by creating a practical and revolutionary directional signal that can be easily installed on all vehicles. The Add-A-Signal alerts other drivers when turning or changing lanes. Inventionland was challenged to finalize various packaging designs that clearly communicate the product to consumers.

Changing lanes on the highway can be hazardous, especially when a passing vehicle is in a driver’s blind spot – the driver can not see the other vehicle without turning around. In addition, the passing driver often does not see the turning vehicle’s flashing signal in time to prevent an accident.

The Solution

Davison created the Wireless Turn Signal Mirrors to provide a view of blind spots and enhance turning safety. The two convex mirrors with embedded electronics attach to the side mirrors of a vehicle. As a turn signal is activated, an illuminated arrow flashes on the appropriate mirror – without connecting wires to the vehicle’s electronics. The mirrors, which we developed for CIPA, can be installed easily using the quick connects in a trunk or hatch. Simply stick the spot mirrors on the side mirrors and you’re done!
